A new surface on a sound old deck, for a third of the price of tearing it out
If the slab is solid and only the surface is worn, hot, stained or slippery, a textured overlay gives you a new deck in two days — cooler underfoot, sealed against the salt, and without a dump trailer in the driveway.
Most pool decks on the Grand Strand from the 1980s through the 2000s are structurally fine and cosmetically done: the surface has worn smooth and slick, the original cool-deck has chipped, the color has bleached in the sun, hairline cracks have spread, and it's too hot to walk on. None of that needs a new slab. A resurfacing system — a polymer-modified cement overlay sprayed and troweled in a knockdown texture, a cool-deck acrylic, or a thin stamped overlay — bonds to the cleaned, profiled old deck and gives it a new, cooler, grippier surface in a day or two, sealed against salt and chlorine.
What resurfacing can't fix is a deck that's moving. Cracks wider than a credit card, sections that have sunk or heaved, and spalling that follows rust lines from steel near the surface will all come through an overlay within a season. Those decks get leveled or replaced. The first thing we do on a resurfacing estimate is sound the slab and look at the cracks, and we'll tell you honestly which side of the line your deck is on. On a sound deck the sequence is pressure washing and profiling, crack repair with a flexible filler, a bond coat, the texture coat, two coats of color and a UV-stable sealer — and it's ready to walk on the next day.
What's included
Sound-the-slab first
Hollow spots, moving cracks and rust spalling found before we promise an overlay will hold.
Prep that makes it stick
Pressure wash, acid or mechanical profile, crack repair with flexible filler, bond coat.
Cooler and grippier
Knockdown and cool-deck textures reflect heat and give bare feet a grip when wet.
Color and seal
UV-stable color coats and a sealer rated for salt and chlorine; resealed every few years.
Stamped overlays
A thin stamped overlay gives a stone look over a plain deck without a new slab.
Two days, not two weeks
Most decks are prepped one day and coated the next; walk on it the following morning.

Questions we get about pool deck resurfacing
How long does a resurfaced deck last?
Ten to fifteen years with a reseal every three to five, on a deck that was sound to begin with. The sealer is what protects it from salt and chlorine, and it's the part people forget.
Can you resurface over old cool-deck?
If it's well bonded, yes — we profile it and go over it. If it's chipping and lifting, it has to come off first, which adds a day of grinding.
Will the cracks come back through?
Hairline shrinkage cracks that aren't moving stay hidden once filled. Cracks from settlement or heaving are moving and will telegraph through any overlay; those decks need leveling or replacement first.
Can I change the color?
Yes — the color coats are applied over the texture and can be anything from white to terracotta, with lighter colors staying cooler.
