Concrete for Forestbrook and the west side of Myrtle Beach
Between the city and the Waterway the road ownership flips street by street — city, county, SCDOT — and the ground flips with it, from dune sand to Waterway muck. We check both before we quote.
West Myrtle Beach is the land between Kings Highway and the Intracoastal Waterway and along the US-501 corridor out toward Carolina Forest: Forestbrook, with its 6,600 people in 1980s–2000s subdivisions; Myrtlewood and the golf communities along the Waterway; the Fantasy Harbour and Broadway at the Beach side; and the streets off Forestbrook Road, Dick Pond Road and Burcale Road. It's a patchwork of jurisdictions — some streets are the City of Myrtle Beach, most of Forestbrook is unincorporated Horry County, and 501, 544 and the Bypass are SCDOT — so the apron permit changes at the corner. The ground changes too: the dune sands of the beach side give way to the lower, wetter flats and the Waterway's edge, and the 2021 FEMA maps put much of the Waterway frontage in a mapped flood zone.
The work here is suburban: driveway replacements and widenings on 1980s–90s homes, boat and RV pads for the houses near the Waterway's launches, patios and pool decks, shed and generator pads, and the county-road aprons with culvert pipes that Forestbrook's older streets have. We pull the right permit for the road — the county's free encroachment permit with 72 hours' notice on Forestbrook's streets, the city's apron permit inside the line, SCDOT's on 501 — and we grade every slab to keep the water in the ditch where the county wants it.

Questions from Forestbrook & West Myrtle Beach homeowners
Is Forestbrook in the city or the county?
Mostly unincorporated Horry County, with some annexed pockets; the county's rules and its free encroachment permit apply on most streets. We confirm the parcel and the road owner before we quote.
I'm on 501. Who permits my apron?
SCDOT — US-501 is a state route, so the apron needs an SCDOT encroachment permit (free, filed online), and it's built to the state's spec. The same goes for 544 and the Bypass.
Can I put a boat pad beside my driveway?
Yes — a 12-by-30 reinforced pad at five or six inches, doweled into the drive, is the standard Waterway-side job. HOAs vary on where boats can be parked; we draw it for the committee.
My lot is in the new flood zone. Does that change a driveway?
Flatwork at grade is fine. Fill and structural slabs are regulated — the county and the cities restrict raising a lot in a flood zone, and foundations have to meet the elevation rule. See the flood guide.
