Concrete for Murrells Inlet — the Seafood Capital's marsh edge and its golf communities
Murrells Inlet straddles the Horry–Georgetown line, the salt marsh and some of the Strand's most reviewed golf communities. We know which county's permit, which HOA's drawing and which flood zone applies.
Murrells Inlet is the fishing village turned restaurant row at the south end of the Grand Strand — the MarshWalk, the inlet-front streets and the creek docks on one side of 17, and the golf and planned communities on the other: Wachesaw Plantation, Prince Creek with its many neighborhoods, Blackmoor, Indigo Creek, the International Club and the newer developments along the Bypass. About 9,740 people, with the county line running through it: the north side is Horry County, the south is Georgetown County (Building Department 843-545-3116), and the permits and the stormwater rules change at the line. The inlet-side streets are marsh edge — AE and VE flood zones, DHEC OCRM critical-area jurisdiction for anything near the tidelands — and the golf communities are sandy ridge and filled low ground inland.
The work splits the same way. On the inlet side it's raised-house slabs, boat pads and trailer parking, walks to docks and the careful grading that keeps fill out of the marsh; in the golf communities it's HOA-reviewed driveway replacements, stamped entries, patios and pool decks, and golf cart pads and paths for the cart neighborhoods that run on the 35-mph streets. Prince Creek's and Wachesaw's committees review exterior changes, and we draw to their standards. Whichever county, whichever zone, the slab underneath is built the same way: compacted base, marine-grade mix within salt reach, joints that decide where the cracks go.

Questions from Murrells Inlet homeowners
Am I in Horry or Georgetown County?
The line runs through Murrells Inlet roughly along the creek and the Wachesaw area; addresses south of it are Georgetown County, whose Building Department in Georgetown issues the permits. We confirm the parcel before we quote and file with the right county.
Can I pour a slab near the marsh?
On the upland side of the critical-area line, with the flood zone's rules on fill and elevation, yes. Anything in the tidelands or the critical area is DHEC OCRM's jurisdiction and needs their permit; we don't pour there without it.
Does Prince Creek allow golf cart pads?
Prince Creek's neighborhoods generally allow them with architectural approval and a finish that matches; the committee wants a site plan. We prepare it.
Who permits an apron on Business 17?
SCDOT — 17 Business and the Bypass are state routes, so it's a free SCDOT encroachment permit and the state's spec.
